Naruto started a Japanese manga series that is written and illustrated by  Masashi Kishimoto and revolves around the life of the main character Naruto Uzumaki.

The character Naruto is a young ninja who wants to be recognised by his peers and wants to become the leader of the village where he lives. The Naruto Uzumaki manga story is split into two parts with the first focusing on little Naruto and the second part following him into his teenage years.

Naruto Shippuden is a sequel to the original anime series.

1. Naruto is the fourth highest-selling Manga series of all time, beaten only by One Piece, Dragon Ball and Golgo 13.

2. Naruto's catch phrase is 'dattebayo' which doesn't have a translation but was dubbed in English as 'believe it'. Masashi Kishimoto chose this phrase as he wanted something that worked well with Naruto's character and felt it portrayed him to be somewhat of a brat.

3. In 2015 a Naruto musical was released and it was so popular that it had a second run a year later. Whilst only running in Japan, the Naruto musical was later released on DVD so there is still an opportunity to watch it!

4. Naruto came from the fictional village Konohagakure, which translates to Hidden Leaf Village in English.

5. Naruto was an orphan in the series because a nine-tailed fox attacked the Hidden Leaf Village and his parents sacrificed themselves to save him.

6. Naruto actually has the nine-tailed fox sealed inside him as a result of the attack in his home village and this is why growing up, many of the other villagers didn't like him.

51. The tailed beasts in Naruto are known as Bijuu and are monsters who have overflown with chakra energy. The nine-tailed fox, Kyuubi, is one such creature as is Rokubi, the six-tailed weasel.

52. The Bijuu are known as demons in Japanese mythology and in the manga and anime series, they are captured inside newborn babies in order to stop the destruction they would otherwise cause.

53. Much of Naruto's key plot points, such as ninjutsu, are based on Buddhist mythologies.
